Distill ("the App") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights.
2. Information We Collect
A. Voice and Audio Data
Local Processing (FOSS Engines): If you select "Whisper Local", "Vosk Offline", "PocketSphinx", etc. your audio is processed entirely on your device. We do not upload this audio to any servers.
Cloud Processing (Groq Whisper, Google Cloud, etc.): If you select a cloud-based engine, your audio is securely transmitted to Groq Inc., Google Cloud, etc. solely for transcription and analysis. Audio is not retained for model training.
B. Calendar Data
Distill requests calendar access to create calendar events that you choose to create using voice.
We only write events to calendars you specify and do not read existing events except to identify the selected calendar for syncing.
C. Authentication Data
If you sign in with Google/Firebase Authentication, we collect basic profile information such as your email address and display name to sync preferences and premium status across devices.
Crash reports, diagnostics, and anonymous analytics.
AdMob may collect device identifiers and approximate location for personalized or non-personalized advertising.
3. Why We Collect Data
Provide speech-to-text, AI transcription, summaries, and productivity features.
Create and sync calendar events.
Manage authentication, premium subscriptions, and preferences.
Improve performance, reliability, speed, and accuracy.
Prevent abuse, fix bugs, and provide customer support.
4. Data Storage and Security
Local data such as distilled items, summaries, and offline files are stored on your device.
We use HTTPS encryption, access controls, and industry-standard safeguards to protect your information.
Audio and transcripts are deleted when you delete the associated item unless you choose to keep them.
5. Permissions
Microphone – required for speech recognition.
Calendar – required only to create calendar events you request.
Internet – required for cloud AI features and syncing.
Network State – checks connectivity.
Notifications – required only to get updates.
6. Third-Party Services
We use trusted providers including Firebase (Authentication, Analytics, Crashlytics), Google AdMob, Groq, and Google Cloud/Gemini Speech-to-Text, etc. These providers process only the information required to deliver requested features under their own privacy policies.
7. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. Data is shared only with service providers necessary to operate the App and deleted on request.
8. Your Choices and Rights
You may revoke microphone, notifications, and/or calendar permissions through your device settings.
You may choose offline speech engines so your voice never leaves your device.
You may request access, correction, or deletion of your personal information.
You can delete individual items or clear app data at any time.
9. Children's Privacy
Distill is not intended for children under 13 or the minimum legal age in your jurisdiction.
10. International Processing
Your information may be processed on servers located in countries other than your own depending on the services you use.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a revised "Last Updated/Effective Date".
